Beautiful deep garnet colour. Intense aromas of wild fruits mingling with hints of truffle and liquorice. On the palate, this wine is powerful and complex with elegant tannins. Very flavourful aftertaste with light notes of spices. Excellent ageing potential.

Joseph Drouhin

Joseph Drouhin domaine is one of the largest estates in the region. It owns vineyards in all of Burgundy: Chablis , Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune, Côte Chalonnaise . It is comprised of a majority of Premier and Grand Crus. The Domaine was put together through the years, thanks to judicious purchases and agreements between families. Some vineyards are among the most famous in Burgundy.

For some village or regional appellations, Joseph Drouhin complements its supplies by purchasing grapes from other vineyard owners who have been long time partners and share the same quest of excellence.

Terroir

At the heart of the Côte de Nuits, the town of Nuits has its own Hospices, world-renowned vineyards and, of course, ancient traditions. The name "Nuits" may come from "noyer" (walnut tree), a not very frequent tree in this region. As a matter of fact, the hillsides in Burgundy were covered with oak trees at the time the Romans arrived. Soil is on clay mixed with limestone pebbles, producing powerful and long lasting wines.

Vinification

Maceration and vinification take 2 to 3 weeks. Fermentation temperatures under total control. Extraction gives colour and substance but should never be detrimental to the finesse and typical character of the wine. Ageing in barrels (20% in new oak). Length: 14 to 18 months.
