A delicious red Burgundy, with harmonious flavours. Bright ruby colour. On the nose, intense aromas of wild cherry, liquorice and mild spices, evolving towards notes of undergrowth and mushroom. On the palate, excellent balance between tannin, acidity and "gras" (velvety texture). The aftertaste is reminiscent of little red berries.
Joseph Drouhin domaine is one of the largest estates in the region. It owns vineyards in all of Burgundy: Chablis , Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune, Côte Chalonnaise . It is comprised of a majority of Premier and Grand Crus. The Domaine was put together through the years, thanks to judicious purchases and agreements between families. Some vineyards are among the most famous in Burgundy.
For some village or regional appellations, Joseph Drouhin complements its supplies by purchasing grapes from other vineyard owners who have been long time partners and share the same quest of excellence.
This wine is an assemblage of villages from the southern end of the Côte de Nuits: Corgoloin, Comblanchien, Premeaux, Brochon, Couchey. Soil is clay and limestone. The name "Côte de Nuits" comes from the town of Nuits-Saint Georges, like Beaune, the capital of its own Côte (or slope).
Maceration and vinification take 2 to 3 weeks. Fermentation temperatures under total control. Extraction gives colour and substance but should never be detrimental to the finesse and typical character of the wine. Ageing in barrels (10% in new oak). Length: 12 to 15 months.
